{"id":264,"date":"2018-09-03T03:09:41","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T03:09:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.carolynamyotte.ca\/?p=264"},"modified":"2019-01-23T03:11:06","modified_gmt":"2019-01-23T03:11:06","slug":"dear-north-kawartha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carolynamyotte.ca\/?p=264","title":{"rendered":"Dear North Kawartha"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2003, I chose to run for the Burleigh Anstruther seat on North Kawartha Council.&nbsp; At the time, our community was divided on many issues.&nbsp; It was North vs. South, Cottagers vs. Locals, and Waterfront vs. Rural etc.&nbsp; As a small business operator I decided that, instead of complaining about the challenges we were facing, I would get involved and put my energy into finding solutions. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With several years of hard work, cooperation and determination many of those divisions were bridged and North Kawartha experienced the joys and successes that come to all united communities. &nbsp; During the 2014 election, despite numerous calls to run for Mayor, I chose to continue serving as a Ward Councillor.&nbsp; I believed that my voice and my input would still be effective on Council and the growth, prosperity and positive outlook that North Kawartha was experiencing would continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today it seems like North Kawartha is not in the contented place it was 4 years ago.&nbsp; It feels like the old divisions have re-opened and the old wounds have not completely healed.&nbsp; The negative \u2018vibe\u2019 is palpable.&nbsp; People are stressed out, worried, unhappy and confused.&nbsp; We are experiencing fundamental changes to the \u2018tourism culture\u2019 that drives our local economy.
